Recipe Info

  • Category : Side dish
  • Ingredient Category : Vegetables
  • Occasion : Quick & Easy
  • Cooking : Stir-fry
  • Servings : 2 servings
  • Cooking Time : Within 15 minutes
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Main Ingredients

  • 1 Carrot (approx. 345g)
  • 1/2 paper cup water (approx. 100ml)

Seasoning

  • 2 Tbsp perilla oil
  • 1 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, wash and prepare 1 carrot. You can peel it or leave the skin on, but thorough washing is essential. Cut the carrot into three equal sections.

Step 1

Step 2

Stand each section of the carrot upright and slice it into pieces about 1cm thick. Ensure all pieces are of similar thickness for even cooking. This step creates flat slices.

Step 2

Step 3

Next, take the sliced carrot pieces and cut them lengthwise into sticks, about 1cm in width. Aim for pieces that are easy to eat, similar to matchsticks. This creates a uniform julienne.

Step 3

Step 4

Place all the prepared carrots into a frying pan. Add 1/2 paper cup (approximately 100ml) of water. Adding a little water helps steam the carrots, making them tender without burning.

Step 4

Step 5

Cover the frying pan with a lid and bring it to a boil over high heat on the stove. Wait until the water starts to bubble vigorously.

Step 5

Step 6

Once the water is boiling rapidly, immediately reduce the heat to low. Add 1 teaspoon of salt and stir gently to distribute it evenly among the carrots. Avoid heaping the teaspoon; level it off. Maintain medium-low heat and cook for about 10 minutes, or until the carrots are tender.

Step 6

Step 7

Check the doneness of the carrots when they are tender and most of the water has evaporated, leaving a slight foam at the bottom of the pan. Taste a piece of carrot. If it needs more seasoning, add a tiny pinch more salt at a time until it reaches your desired flavor.

Step 7

Step 8

Once the seasoning is adjusted, add 2 tablespoons of perilla oil. Stir well to combine everything. The nutty aroma of the perilla oil will beautifully complement the sweetness of the carrots.

Step 8

Step 9

Stir the carrots a few more times to ensure the perilla oil coats them evenly. Then, turn off the stove immediately. The residual heat will continue to cook the carrots slightly and meld the flavors.

Step 9

Step 10

Finally, prepare the toasted sesame seeds. Lightly crushing them beforehand will release more of their fragrant aroma and flavor.

Step 10

Step 11

Transfer the cooked carrots to a serving dish, or add the prepared toasted sesame seeds directly into the pan with the carrots.

Step 11

Step 12

Mix the sesame seeds thoroughly with the stir-fried carrots. This final step enhances the nutty flavor, completing this delicious side dish.

Step 12

Step 13

Enjoy this nutritious and flavorful stir-fried carrot dish for a healthy and delightful meal!
