Easy Homemade Sweet Chestnut Candies & Candied Chestnuts
A delightful autumn treat made from chestnuts! These sweet chestnut candies, known as ‘Bam Matang,’ boast a wonderfully crisp exterior and a soft, sweet interior that everyone, young and old, will adore. They’re especially perfect as a snack to enjoy with a cold beer. Whether for kids’ snacks or adult beer pairings, here’s how to make perfect Bam Matang!
Chestnut Candy Ingredients- 10 chestnuts
- 2 Tbsp oligosaccharide
- 2 Tbsp sugar
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the chestnuts by peeling their skins off carefully. Using fresh chestnuts will give you a crispier texture, but if peeling is difficult, you can use pre-boiled or steamed chestnuts. Boiled chestnuts are much easier to peel!
Step 2
Lightly grease a non-stick frying pan with a small amount of olive oil. (If using a non-stick pan, you might be able to cook them without oil.) Add the prepared chestnuts and pan-fry them over medium-low heat until they turn a light golden brown. If you’re using boiled chestnuts, just cook them briefly to evaporate some surface moisture. For fresh chestnuts, cook them a bit longer to ensure they are cooked through.
Step 3
Once the chestnuts are lightly browned, push them to one side of the pan. Add the sugar and oligosaccharide to the empty space. Let them melt without stirring, to prevent burning. It’s important to melt them slowly over low heat.
Step 4
When the sugar and oligosaccharide have melted into a syrup, gently stir them together with the chestnuts. Mix well to ensure the syrup evenly coats the surface of each chestnut. Be careful not to break the chestnuts as you mix.
Step 5
Your Bam Matang is ready, coated in a sweet syrup and glistening beautifully! Its irresistible sweetness combined with the unique nutty flavor of the chestnuts makes it a treat you’ll find hard to stop eating.
Step 6
These homemade chestnut candies are wonderful enjoyed with a warm cup of coffee, or as a fantastic accompaniment to a cold beer or makgeolli. Enjoy your special homemade treat and have a delightful time! Make your summer or autumn even more delicious!
