Ingredients

  • 150g can of tuna, drained
  • 1/2 onion, cut into 6 wedges
  • 1/3 stalk of green onion, finely chopped
  • 1 Korean chili pepper, finely chopped (optional)
  • A pinch of sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • 1 Tbsp cooking oil

Seasoning Sauce

  • 1 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili powder)
  • 0.5 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 Tbsp jin-ganjang (Korean soy sauce)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the canned tuna. It’s important to drain the oil thoroughly using a sieve. This step helps reduce greasiness in the stir-fry and enhances the natural flavors of the ingredients.

Step 1

Step 2

Cut half an onion into 6 wedges. You can cut them into larger pieces for easier handling, or slice them thinly if you prefer them to cook faster. Finely chop the green onion. Heat 1 Tbsp of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the prepared onion and green onion, and stir-fry until the onion becomes translucent, releasing its aroma. Avoid overcooking until it turns brown; just cook until it softens slightly.

Step 2

Step 3

Once the onion and green onion are tender and fragrant, add the drained tuna to the pan. Then, add all the seasoning ingredients: 1 Tbsp gochugaru, 0.5 Tbsp sugar, and 1 Tbsp jin-ganjang. Be careful not to burn the seasonings as you add them.

Step 3

Step 4

Using a spatula or spoon, stir well to combine the tuna and seasoning evenly. The key is to break up the tuna clumps as you stir-fry. If you enjoy a spicier dish, finely chop one Korean chili pepper and add it at this stage for an extra kick. Stir-fry for another 1-2 minutes until all ingredients are well combined.

Step 4

Step 5

Transfer the delicious tuna and onion stir-fry to a serving plate. Finally, sprinkle a pinch of sesame seeds on top for added nuttiness and visual appeal. Serve hot with rice, either mixed in or as a side dish. This dish is sure to be a favorite for the whole family!
