How to Make Deliciously Soft and Chewy Dried Squid Strips Salad
Let’s make a tender and flavorful dried squid strips salad that’s perfect as a side dish!
Main Ingredients- Dried squid strips (Jinmichae) 300g
- Water, a little (for softening)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, cut the dried squid strips (Jinmichae) into bite-sized pieces, about 3-5 cm long. If they’re too long, they can be difficult to eat. Lightly rinse the cut Jinmichae under running water to lightly moisten them, then squeeze out the excess water firmly with both hands. This step ensures the Jinmichae remains tender and doesn’t become tough.
Step 2
In a large bowl, combine all the seasoning ingredients that will give the Jinmichae salad its wonderful flavor. Add the soy sauce, gochujang, gochugaru, and sugar for a touch of sweetness. Finally, add the toasted sesame seeds for a nutty aroma. Mix these ingredients with a spoon or spatula until well combined, ensuring there are no lumps in the seasoning paste.
Step 3
Now, add the squeezed Jinmichae to the prepared seasoning. Gently mix and knead the ingredients with your hands (jo-mol jo-mol) so that the seasoning coats the Jinmichae evenly. Be careful not to over-mix or mash the Jinmichae; a gentle mixing action is key to maintaining its texture. You can also use chopsticks.
Step 4
Once well combined, transfer the seasoned Jinmichae to a serving dish. Your delicious and tender dried squid strips salad is now complete! This salad is fantastic as a side dish with rice or even as a snack. Stored in the refrigerator, it makes a wonderful homemade banchan that lasts for days.
