Main Ingredients- Beef (for bulgogi) 400g
- 1/2 Green Onion (about 10cm length)
Special Marinade- 1 Tbsp White Sugar or Raw Sugar
- 3 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Mirin (or Cooking Wine)
- 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil
- 1 Tbsp White Sugar or Raw Sugar
- 3 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Mirin (or Cooking Wine)
- 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, if using frozen beef, thaw it completely in cold water. It’s crucial to remove the blood. Change the water several times while soaking for at least 30 minutes, or rinse under cold running water until most of the blood is gone. Once the blood is removed, gently squeeze out excess moisture using your hands or paper towels. This step prevents the meat from sticking to the pan and ensures a cleaner sear.
Step 2
Place the blood-drained and squeezed beef in a bowl. Add the marinade ingredients: 1 Tbsp sugar, 3 Tbsp soy sauce, and 1 Tbsp mirin (or cooking wine). Gently massage the marinade into the meat to ensure it’s evenly coated. Let it marinate for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to penetrate.
Step 3
Wash the green onion and slice it diagonally into thick pieces, about 5-7cm long. Heat a frying pan over high heat. Add the marinated beef and the sliced green onions to the hot pan. Stir-frying over high heat helps to keep the meat tender and juicy.
Step 4
As the beef and green onions cook, the marinade will reduce and release a delicious aroma. Stir-fry until the beef is fully cooked. Turn off the heat. At this point, you can add 1 Tbsp of sesame oil for extra nutty flavor, if desired. If you prefer to omit the sesame oil, set aside one portion of the cooked bulgogi, then add 1 Tbsp sesame oil to the remaining portion and mix well. This will result in incredibly tender and succulent meat that melts in your mouth. If you’re concerned about any gamey odor, you can add a tiny pinch of black pepper during the marinating stage.
Step 5
Serve immediately while hot for the best taste! Enjoy it over steamed rice or with fresh lettuce wraps.
