Main Ingredients

  • 2 slices Spam
  • 1 bowl rice (as much as you want to eat)
  • 1 slice cheddar cheese (optional)
  • Mozzarella cheese (as much as you want to eat)
  • Sweet corn (as much as you want to eat)
  • 1/2 sheet dried seaweed (gim, optional)

Seasoning

  • 1 tsp sesame oil (for coating the pot)
  • 1 Tbsp rice syrup (oligosaccharide)
  • 1 Tbsp gochujang (red chili paste)
  • 1 tsp ketchup

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, cut the 2 slices of Spam into bite-sized cubes. This provides a pleasant texture when mixed with the rice.

Grease a small earthenware pot (ttukbaegi) with 1 teaspoon of sesame oil. This prevents the rice from sticking and adds a delicious toasted rice flavor. Press 1 bowl of rice (or your desired amount) firmly into the greased pot.

On top of the rice, add 1 tablespoon of rice syrup, 1 tablespoon of gochujang, and 1 teaspoon of ketchup. Mix everything thoroughly with a spoon until the rice and seasonings are well combined. If serving to children, you can adjust the amount of gochujang or omit it entirely.

Layer the cubed Spam and sweet corn, as much as you like, over the seasoned rice. The savory spam and sweet corn create a fantastic harmony with the rice.

Now it’s time to add the cheese for extra richness! Top generously with 1 slice of cheddar cheese (optional) and your desired amount of mozzarella cheese. As the cheese melts, it will beautifully coat the rice and other ingredients.
