  • 1 Cheongyang chili pepper
  • 1/6 of an onion
  • 1 cup (200ml) water
  • 2 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 Tbsp vinegar
  • 2 Tbsp sugar
  • A pinch of sesame seeds

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, gather all the ingredients for your cold ramen. You’ll need one packet of instant ramen, a handful of bean sprouts, one Cheongyang chili pepper, and one-sixth of an onion. Wash the bean sprouts thoroughly and drain them. Finely chop the Cheongyang chili pepper. Thinly slice the onion.

Step 1

Step 2

In a pot, add 1 cup (200ml) of water and bring it to a boil. Once boiling, add the bean sprouts. Cook the bean sprouts for about 1 minute.

Step 2

Step 3

Once the bean sprouts are slightly cooked, add the instant ramen noodles to the pot. Stir gently to separate the noodles as they cook.

Step 3

Step 4

Now, add the dried vegetable flakes that came with your ramen packet. This will add a richer texture and flavor to your dish.

Step 4

Step 5

Add the thinly sliced onion to the pot with the noodles and bean sprouts. The onion will soften and release its natural sweetness as it cooks.

Step 5

Step 6

When the ramen is fully cooked, drain the noodles and vegetables. Rinse them thoroughly under cold running water to remove all the heat. For an extra refreshing texture, briefly soak the noodles in ice water. This makes them wonderfully firm and chewy.

Step 6

Step 7

Let’s make the star of this cold ramen: the sauce! In a small bowl, combine the ramen soup powder, 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 2 tablespoons of vinegar, 2 tablespoons of sugar, and the chopped Cheongyang chili pepper. Mix well. This creates a perfectly balanced sweet, sour, and spicy sauce. Place the chilled noodles and vegetables in a serving bowl and pour this delicious sauce evenly over them.

Step 7

Step 8

Finally, sprinkle some sesame seeds on top for garnish. Your super simple Baek Jong-won style cold ramen is now ready! The cool, tangy broth and firm noodles are sure to make you forget all about the heat.
