Super Simple Cinnamon Rolls with Hotteok Mix
Easy Cinnamon Rolls Made with an Air Fryer
You can make delicious cinnamon rolls easily without difficult measurements or complicated baking, just by using a store-bought hotteok (Korean pancake) mix and an air fryer! They are perfect as a snack with a cup of coffee. The combination of chewy dough and sweet cinnamon filling is exquisite.
Key Ingredients- 1 packet of store-bought Hotteok mix (includes mix powder, yeast, and jam filling)
- 150ml warm milk
- A little melted butter or olive oil (for brushing)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare all the ingredients needed to make the cinnamon rolls. Take out the mix powder, yeast, and jam filling that are included in the hotteok mix packet. Gently warm the milk in the microwave until it’s lukewarm.
Step 2
In a large bowl, combine the hotteok mix powder, yeast, and 150ml of the warm milk. Mix them together and knead until a smooth, elastic dough forms. Continue kneading by hand until the dough is no longer sticky and has a pleasant texture.
Step 3
Shape the dough into a ball, place it in the bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes. The dough is ready when it has doubled in size or increased by about 1.5 to 2 times.
Step 4
Transfer the risen dough to a clean work surface and use a rolling pin to flatten it into a thin rectangular shape. Aim for a thin layer, as a thick dough might make it difficult to roll properly.
Step 5
Brush the thinly rolled dough with melted butter or olive oil. This step helps the cinnamon jam filling adhere well to the dough and adds extra flavor.
Step 6
Evenly sprinkle the cinnamon jam filling, which is included with the hotteok mix, over the dough, ensuring good coverage. Gently spread it with your hands to avoid clumping.
Step 7
Starting from one edge, carefully roll up the dough with the jam filling. Roll it tightly to ensure the cinnamon rolls hold their shape and don’t unravel during baking.
Step 8
Slice the rolled cinnamon roll dough into desired pieces, about 1.5 to 2 cm thick. Arrange the sliced rolls in the air fryer basket, lined with parchment paper, making sure there’s a little space between each roll so they don’t stick together.
Step 9
Preheat your air fryer, then bake at 170°C (340°F) for 13 to 15 minutes. If you notice a burning smell or the tops are browning too quickly, reduce the temperature slightly or adjust the baking time. Once golden brown, transfer the delicious cinnamon rolls to a wire rack to cool slightly before enjoying!
