Super Simple Brown Rice Vegetable Omurice
The Easiest Way to Make Omurice with Minimal Ingredients
A quick and easy omurice recipe using simple ingredients you likely have at home. Perfect for a busy morning or a light, nutritious meal!
Main Ingredients- 1 serving brown rice
- 1/4 potato
- 1/4 onion
- 2 eggs
- A little chopped scallion (optional)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the vegetables for the filling. Peel the potato and onion, then mince them very finely. Mincing the potato to a size similar to the rice grains will result in a softer texture.
Step 2
Heat 1 tablespoon of brown rice oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the minced potato and onion and sauté. It’s important to cook them thoroughly until they become translucent and tender. Add a pinch of salt at this stage to enhance the natural sweetness of the vegetables.
Step 3
Once the vegetables are well sautéed, add 1 serving of brown rice. Break up any clumps with a spatula and stir-fry. Season with salt to taste as you stir-fry, and add a generous amount of sesame seeds for a nutty aroma. If you like ketchup, you can add 1-2 tablespoons at this point and stir-fry together for an even more delicious flavor. Continue stir-frying until the rice is fluffy and separated.
Step 4
Now, let’s prepare the egg mixture. Crack 2 eggs into a bowl and add a tiny pinch of salt for seasoning. (Adjust the salt based on the seasoning of your fried rice.) Add the chopped scallions and mix well. Scallions add a nice fragrance, but you can omit them if you don’t have any.
Step 5
Preheat another frying pan over low heat and add the remaining 1 tablespoon of brown rice oil. Wipe the pan with a paper towel to lightly coat it with oil; this helps the egg cook evenly without burning. Pour the egg mixture thinly into the pan. Once the edges of the egg start to set, carefully place the prepared fried rice in the center of the egg. Be mindful not to add too much rice, as it can cause the egg to tear.
Step 6
Let the egg cook slowly over low heat. When the edges of the egg are cooked and begin to detach from the pan, gently fold the egg over the fried rice by tilting the pan. Then, skillfully maneuver the pan to flip the omurice so the fried rice is underneath and the egg is on top, and carefully plate it. (If this step is difficult, you can simply fold the egg in half over the rice.)
Step 7
Finally, drizzle ketchup over the omurice in a zigzag pattern for a delicious finish! Enjoy it while it’s warm.
