Tangsuyuk Ingredients

  • 121g canned corn, drained
  • 20g onion, finely diced
  • 27g cucumber, finely diced
  • 21g carrot, finely diced
  • 1 egg
  • 3 Tbsp all-purpose flour (for batter)

Sweet & Sour Tangsuyuk Sauce

  • 12 Tbsp water
  • 4 Tbsp sugar
  • 2 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 3 Tbsp vinegar
  • Slurry (0.5 Tbsp cornstarch + 2 Tbsp water, mixed)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare all the ingredients for the Sweet Corn Tangsuyuk. If using canned corn, drain it thoroughly in a sieve. You can also use fresh steamed corn, but canned corn is convenient.

Step 1

Step 2

Prepare the ingredients for the Tangsuyuk batter. Crack one egg into a bowl and measure out 3 tablespoons of all-purpose flour. These will form the batter that binds the corn together.

Step 2

Step 3

Next, prepare the vegetables for the Tangsuyuk sauce. Finely dice the carrot, onion, and cucumber into pieces similar in size to the corn. Uniformly sized vegetables cook evenly and look appealing. Finely chop the canned corn (121g) with a knife. Chopping the corn prevents it from separating from the batter during frying and helps maintain its shape.

Step 3

Step 4

Make the sweet and sour Tangsuyuk sauce in advance. In a saucepan, combine 12 tablespoons of water, 4 tablespoons of sugar, 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, and 3 tablespoons of vinegar. Stir well. For the sauce’s thickness, prepare the cornstarch slurry by mixing 0.5 tablespoon of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water until smooth and lump-free.

Step 4

Step 5

To the finely chopped corn, add only the egg yolk. (The egg white can make the batter too thin, so it’s best to omit it or save it for another dish.) Add 2 tablespoons of flour and mix to create a slightly thick batter. Avoid adding too much flour at once; gradually add more as needed while checking the batter’s consistency. Add water very sparingly to adjust the consistency. The batter should be thick and sticky to prevent separation during frying.

Step 5

Step 6

The finished batter should hold its shape when formed into a round patty in your hand without sticking. When you scoop the batter with a spoon, it should fall off cleanly but hold its shape. If it’s difficult to shape with your hands, you can simply scoop portions of the batter with a spoon and carefully drop them into the hot oil. Using a spoon helps create uniform shapes.

Step 6

Step 7

Carefully place the batter portions into the heated oil to fry. Sweet Corn Tangsuyuk doesn’t require a long frying time. Fry them over medium heat, turning them with chopsticks until they are golden brown. Corn can burn easily, so keep an eye on the heat and adjust as needed. Once fried, transfer the Sweet Corn Tangsuyuk to a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil.

Step 7

Step 8

In a pan, add the diced vegetables and pour in the pre-made sauce. Stir-fry over high heat for about 3 minutes, just until the vegetables are slightly tender. Be careful not to overcook them, as they can become mushy. Now, it’s time to thicken the sauce. Gradually add the prepared cornstarch slurry, stirring constantly, until you achieve your desired sauce consistency. Add the slurry slowly, a little at a time, to prevent lumps and ensure a smooth, thickened sauce.

Step 8

Step 9

Arrange the golden-fried Sweet Corn Tangsuyuk on a plate and generously ladle the warm sauce over it. Your delicious Sweet Corn Tangsuyuk is ready! The crispy exterior and tender interior are delightful on their own, but tossing them with the sauce enhances the flavor even further.

Step 9

Step 10

Beat the summer heat with this sweet and savory Sweet Corn Tangsuyuk! It’s perfect for a refreshing snack for kids or a great accompaniment to your favorite beverages.
