Make Delicious Street Toast Using English Muffins – A Perfect Home Brunch Menu!
Today, I’m sharing a simple yet satisfying street toast recipe perfect for a lazy breakfast or lunch. By simply swapping the bread for English muffins, you get a delightful twist on the classic. It’s quick, easy, and a hearty meal option!
Main Ingredients- 1 English muffin
- 1 Tbsp butter
- 1 slice ham
- 1 slice cheddar cheese
- 2 Tbsp ketchup
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 1 Tbsp strawberry jam
- 1 Tbsp mayonnaise
Egg Patty Ingredients- 50g cabbage (approx. 1/4 small cabbage)
- 15g carrot (approx. 1/5 small carrot)
- 2 eggs
- 1 Tbsp canned corn kernels
- 1/3 tsp salt (or to taste)
- 3 Tbsp canola oil
- 50g cabbage (approx. 1/4 small cabbage)
- 15g carrot (approx. 1/5 small carrot)
- 2 eggs
- 1 Tbsp canned corn kernels
- 1/3 tsp salt (or to taste)
- 3 Tbsp canola oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the vegetables for the egg patty. Finely shred the cabbage. The thinner the shreds, the softer the texture will be.
Step 2
Finely julienne the carrot to match the thickness of the shredded cabbage.
Step 3
In a bowl, combine the shredded cabbage, julienned carrots, and 1 tablespoon of canned corn kernels. The corn adds a delightful pop of sweetness and texture.
Step 4
Crack 2 fresh eggs into the bowl with the vegetables. Add 1/3 teaspoon of salt to season the egg patty. Adjust the salt according to your preference.
Step 5
Using chopsticks or a whisk, thoroughly mix all the ingredients together. Ensure the egg mixture is well combined with the vegetables.
Step 6
Heat 3 tablespoons of canola oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Once the pan is preheated, pour in the egg mixture. Use a spoon to help shape it into a round patty as it cooks. Aim for a thick patty.
Step 7
Because the egg patty is thick, cooking it over high heat can burn the outside before the inside is cooked. Cook slowly over low heat to ensure it cooks through completely. Covering the pan can help it cook more evenly.
Step 8
Once one side is golden brown, carefully flip the patty and cook the other side until golden brown as well. Make sure it’s cooked through.
Step 9
Now, it’s time to toast the English muffin. Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a clean pan over low heat.
Step 10
Once the butter is melted, place the halved English muffin cut-side down into the pan. Toast over low heat, flipping occasionally, until both sides are golden brown and have absorbed some of the buttery flavor.
Step 11
Spread 1 tablespoon of strawberry jam generously onto the bottom half of the toasted English muffin. The sweet jam adds a lovely counterpoint to the savory elements.
Step 12
Place the cooked egg patty on top of the jam. Then, drizzle 2 tablespoons of ketchup and sprinkle 1 tablespoon of sugar over the patty, adjusting to your taste.
Step 13
Layer 1 slice of ham and 1 slice of cheddar cheese on top of the egg patty. The heat will melt the cheese beautifully.
Step 14
Finally, spread 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise onto the cut side of the top half of the English muffin.
Step 15
Place the top half of the muffin onto the fillings to complete your delicious street toast! You can serve it as is, cut with a fork and knife, or slice it in half.
Step 16
For easier eating, I like to wrap it in parchment paper and then cut it in half. This is also great for taking it on the go!
