Ingredients- Prepared seaweed stems
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- 3 tsp canola oil
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds
- 1 tsp sugar
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
This stir-fried seaweed stem recipe is incredibly easy to make with simple ingredients, making it even more appealing. It’s truly a fantastic side dish for rice!
Step 2
First, when you open a package of seaweed stems, they are usually preserved in salt. Rinse them thoroughly under cold running water 1 to 3 times to remove excess salt. Then, soak them in a bowl of water for about 5 to 10 minutes to achieve the perfect level of saltiness. If you just rinse them without soaking, they’ll be too salty to enjoy. After soaking, drain the seaweed stems well using a colander. Cut them into bite-sized pieces and set aside.
Step 3
Now, preheat a pan and add 3 teaspoons of canola oil. Once the pan is warm, add the minced garlic and sauté over medium-low heat until fragrant, creating garlic-infused oil. Be careful not to burn the garlic; gently cooking it to release its aroma is key.
Step 4
Once the garlic oil is ready, add the cut seaweed stems to the pan and stir-fry over medium heat for about 5 minutes. Cook until the seaweed stems soften slightly. Next, add the toasted sesame seeds, sugar, and sesame oil, and mix well. Finally, sprinkle in some black pepper. Adding black pepper at this stage is a secret trick to eliminate any lingering fishy smell from the seaweed stems, resulting in a much cleaner and more delicious dish.
Step 5
Adding black pepper during the stir-frying process effectively eliminates any unpleasant odors from the seaweed stems, allowing you to enjoy a fresher flavor.
Step 6
Continue to stir-fry for a short while to allow the seasonings to fully coat the seaweed stems. Then, add the thinly sliced carrots and stir-fry for another minute, just until the carrots are slightly tender but still have a pleasant crunch. Turn off the heat, and your delicious stir-fried seaweed stems are ready!
