Savory and Sweet Stir-fried Oyster Mushrooms: A Flavorful Dish for Everyone
I absolutely adore the fragrant taste of oyster mushrooms! However, sometimes kids can be hesitant due to their unique aroma. That’s why I love to make them savory and sweet, a flavor profile that even picky eaters enjoy. This dish features a delightful chewy texture and rich umami.
Main Ingredients- 2 bunches Oyster Mushrooms (approx. 300-400g)
Seasoning Ingredients- 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Oligosaccharide (or corn syrup)
- A pinch of Toasted Sesame Seeds
- 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Oligosaccharide (or corn syrup)
- A pinch of Toasted Sesame Seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Gently rinse the fresh oyster mushrooms under running water to remove any dirt. Trim off the tough, woody base of the mushrooms with a knife. Tear the washed mushrooms into bite-sized pieces (about 3-4cm) by hand, or chop them with a knife. If you cut them too small, they might break apart while stir-frying, so aim for slightly thicker pieces for a better texture.
Step 2
Heat a pan over medium-high heat and add the prepared oyster mushrooms. Stir-fry until the mushrooms start to release their natural moisture. Once the mushrooms have slightly wilted, add 1 tablespoon of soy sauce and 1 tablespoon of oligosaccharide (or corn syrup). Mix well and continue to stir-fry. Lower the heat to low. It’s important to cook slowly over low heat, allowing the moisture from the mushrooms and the sauce to reduce and the mushrooms to absorb the flavors. Continue stir-frying until most of the liquid has evaporated. This process enhances the mushrooms’ flavor and creates a satisfying chewy texture.
Step 3
Finally, sprinkle generously with toasted sesame seeds for a glossy finish and nutty aroma. Give it one or two more quick stirs to combine. Your delicious stir-fried oyster mushrooms are ready! They are wonderful served over warm rice or as a side dish with other meals.
