- 10 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 onion, finely diced
- 1/4 carrot, finely diced
- 3 Cheongyang peppers (or other hot peppers), finely chopped
- 1/4 pear, finely diced
Shrimp Stir-Fry Gochujang Seasoning- 1 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 0.5 Tbsp mayonnaise
- 1.5 Tbsp oligodang (corn syrup or similar sweetener)
- 4 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp fish sauce
- 1 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 0.5 Tbsp mayonnaise
- 1.5 Tbsp oligodang (corn syrup or similar sweetener)
- 4 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp fish sauce
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the vegetables and fruit for the stir-fry gochujang. Finely mince the garlic. Dice the onion, carrot, and pear into small, bite-sized pieces. If using Cheongyang peppers, remove the seeds and finely chop them to add a spicy kick.
Step 2
Heat 4 tablespoons of olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, being careful not to burn it. This step creates a flavorful garlic oil that deepens the sauce’s taste.
Step 3
Once the garlic is fragrant, add the prepared shrimp. You can chop the shrimp into larger pieces for texture, or mince them finely according to your preference. Add all the seasoning ingredients (1 Tbsp gochujang, 1 Tbsp gochugaru, 0.5 Tbsp mayonnaise, 1.5 Tbsp oligodang, 1 tsp fish sauce) to the pan. Stir-fry everything together over medium heat for about 1 minute. Then, reduce the heat to low and continue to cook for another 2 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
Step 4
After the sauce has cooked for a bit, add the diced onion, carrot, and pear to the pan. Stir well to combine. As the vegetables begin to release moisture, continue to stir-fry over medium heat for about 3-4 minutes, until the vegetables are tender.
Step 5
Once the vegetables are tender, increase the heat to high for a short while to evaporate some of the moisture. Be careful not to overcook or burn the ingredients. Stir continuously during this stage. Finally, add the chopped Cheongyang peppers and mix gently to incorporate their spicy aroma.
Step 6
Your delicious shrimp stir-fry gochujang is now complete! For an extra touch, sprinkle some sesame seeds on top for a more appealing presentation.
Step 7
Now, let’s use the prepared shrimp gochujang to make stir-fried noodles. Cook the somen noodles according to package directions. In a separate pan, add the cooked noodles and 2 tablespoons of the shrimp stir-fry gochujang. Stir-fry lightly, just enough for the noodles to be coated with the sauce. (This portion is for one serving).
Step 8
Transfer the stir-fried noodles to a serving bowl. Generously spoon 3 tablespoons of the shrimp stir-fry gochujang over the top as a topping. For an enhanced visual and flavor, you can sprinkle some ground dried shrimp or shrimp powder. Enjoy your savory, sweet, and spicy stir-fried noodles with shrimp gochujang!
