Stir-Fried Korean Green Peppers and Spam
Super Simple Stir-Fried Korean Green Peppers and Spam Recipe
These days, Korean green peppers (gwari gochu) are tender, not too spicy, and delicious! I made a stir-fry using Spam, which I always have on hand, and these lovely peppers. It’s an incredibly simple dish, truly. I hope you enjoy it!
Main Ingredients- 10 Korean green peppers (Gwari Gochu)
- 1/4 can Spam (approx. 100g)
- 1 Tbsp cooking oil (15ml)
Seasoning- 1 tsp minced garlic (5ml)
- 1 tsp minced garlic (5ml)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Wash the Korean green peppers thoroughly under running water. Remove the stems. Then, cut them lengthwise into four pieces or slice them into thin strips. Cutting them into manageable pieces makes them easier to eat, especially for children.
Step 2
Slice the Spam into thin strips, similar in length to the green peppers. A helpful tip: slightly freezing the Spam before slicing makes it easier to cut cleanly without crumbling.
Step 3
Heat 1 tablespoon of cooking oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Add the minced garlic and stir-fry until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic by cooking it over high heat.
Step 4
Once the garlic releases its aroma, add both the prepared Korean green peppers and the sliced Spam to the pan.
Step 5
Turn up the heat to high and stir-fry the ingredients, mixing them well, for about 3 to 4 minutes. Cook until the green peppers are slightly softened and the Spam is lightly browned. Avoid overcooking, as this can make the peppers lose their pleasant crispness.
Step 6
Transfer the deliciously stir-fried Korean green peppers and Spam to a serving dish. This dish pairs wonderfully with a bowl of hot steamed rice.
