Stir-Fried Ferns with Perilla Oil (Dosirak Side Dish)
Delicious Stir-Fried Ferns with Perilla Oil – Perfect for Lunch Boxes!
I personally feel that dried wild vegetables truly shine when stir-fried with fragrant perilla oil. The chewy texture combined with the nutty aroma of perilla oil makes this dish an excellent side for any meal, especially for packed lunches. Here’s a simple yet delicious recipe for stir-fried ferns!
Main Ingredients- Boiled and prepared ferns, 300g (cut into bite-sized pieces)
Seasoning Ingredients- Perilla oil, 2 Tbsp
- Soup soy sauce (Guk-ganjang), 2 Tbsp
- Minced garlic, 1/2 Tbsp
- Sesame seeds, a pinch (for garnish)
- Perilla oil, 2 Tbsp
- Soup soy sauce (Guk-ganjang), 2 Tbsp
- Minced garlic, 1/2 Tbsp
- Sesame seeds, a pinch (for garnish)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
In a large bowl, place the prepared boiled ferns. Add 2 Tbsp of perilla oil, 2 Tbsp of soup soy sauce, and 1/2 Tbsp of minced garlic. Mixing the seasonings first helps them absorb better into the ferns.
Step 2
Using a spoon or chopsticks, gently toss and mix the ferns with the seasonings until they are evenly coated. Be careful not to break the ferns; gentle mixing is key. (Note: Refer to @6921180 for instructions on how to boil ferns.)
Step 3
Heat a pan over medium-high heat. Add the seasoned ferns and stir-fry quickly. This step helps to evaporate excess moisture and coat the ferns with the fragrant perilla oil. Once you can smell the garlic, reduce the heat to medium. Continue to stir-fry gently for about 3-5 minutes, ensuring the seasonings are well-absorbed and breaking up any clumps.
Step 4
Finally, sprinkle a pinch of sesame seeds over the top for garnish, if desired. The added nuttiness of the sesame seeds enhances the flavor. This dish is delicious served warm, or you can let it cool and pack it as a side for your lunch box.
