Let’s recreate this dish that evokes cherished childhood memories!
Main Ingredients- 1 handful of young green peppers (or baby peppers)
- 1 Tbsp all-purpose flour
Seasoning Sauce- 3 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp red pepper flakes
- 1 Tbsp plum extract (or syrup)
- A pinch of sesame seeds
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 3 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp red pepper flakes
- 1 Tbsp plum extract (or syrup)
- A pinch of sesame seeds
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, carefully select fresh young green peppers (also known as baby peppers). Inspect them thoroughly for any signs of insects or damage and trim them as needed. (Peppers harvested late in the fall are sometimes referred to as ‘end-of-season peppers’.)
Step 2
Remove the stems from the prepared green peppers and wash them thoroughly under running water. It’s best to leave them slightly damp rather than drying them completely.
Step 3
While the peppers are still slightly wet, add 1 tablespoon of all-purpose flour. This will help the flour adhere evenly to the surface of the peppers.
Step 4
Gently shake the peppers or use a spatula to lightly toss them, ensuring they are coated evenly with a white layer of flour.
Step 5
Arrange the flour-coated green peppers in a steamer basket over boiling water. Cover with a lid and steam for about 5 minutes. Adjust the steaming time slightly depending on the quantity and size of the peppers. Be careful not to overcook, as they can become mushy.
Step 6
While the peppers are steaming, let’s prepare the delicious seasoning sauce. In a bowl, combine 3 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of red pepper flakes, 1/2 tablespoon of minced garlic, and 1 tablespoon of plum extract. Mix well. Finally, add sesame oil and a pinch of sesame seeds for extra flavor. Your flavorful sauce is now ready.
Step 7
Carefully remove the steamed green peppers, which should be tender yet slightly crisp, from the steamer and place them in a large bowl. Gently pour the prepared seasoning sauce over the steamed peppers.
Step 8
Gently toss the peppers to ensure the seasoning is evenly distributed. Your nostalgic Steamed Green Pepper Salad is now complete! It’s a simple yet incredibly flavorful and satisfying side dish. Enjoy it while it’s still warm for the best aromatic experience and delightful crunch. It’s a little bit of happiness on your dinner table!
