Main Ingredients- Dried Ray 3 pieces (soak thoroughly)
- Scallion a little (chopped for garnish)
- Red chili pepper a little (seeds removed, chopped for garnish)
- Garlic a little (sliced thinly for garnish)
- Onion 1/2 (thinly julienned)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Soak the hard dried ray in plenty of water for several hours before cooking until it becomes tender. Depending on the dryness, it’s best to soak for at least 4-5 hours or overnight. This soaking process is the first step to remove any fishy odor and achieve a tender texture.
Step 2
After soaking, rinse the ray thoroughly under cold running water. Gently rub to remove any surface impurities before steaming. This washing step is crucial for a clean taste.
Step 3
Fill a steamer with water and bring it to a boil. Once boiling, place the soaked ray in the steamer and steam over medium heat for about 20 minutes. Adjust the steaming time based on the thickness and size of the ray. Check if it’s tender enough by inserting a chopstick; it should go in easily.
Step 4
Carefully transfer the perfectly steamed ray onto a serving plate. It’s best enjoyed immediately after steaming, so serving it directly from the steamer is recommended for the purest flavor.
Step 5
While the ray is steaming, let’s make the delicious sauce! In a bowl, combine 2 Tbsp of soy sauce and 1 Tbsp of perilla oil. Add a pinch of freshly ground black pepper for a fragrant aroma. If you like it spicy, you can add chopped chili peppers. Mix all ingredients well to create a flavorful sauce.
Step 6
Personally, I love to add thinly julienned onion, rinsed in cold water for a crisp texture. I like to top the steamed ray with this prepared onion and serve it with the sauce. You’ll be amazed by how tender and chewy it is! It’s rich in collagen, good for your skin, and the chewy flesh becomes nutty as you chew. This Steamed Dried Ray is a special delicacy that the whole family can enjoy. Be sure to try making it!
