A delightful dish featuring beef brisket and water dropwort! This recipe uses only the stems of water dropwort, rolled tightly with beef brisket and then steamed. Steaming removes excess fat from the brisket and tenderizes the meat, making it a healthy and delicious option. If you have a special sauce for beef brisket, use it; otherwise, a simple soy sauce-based sauce works well too. Lightly season with salt, pepper, and basil powder for added flavor. It’s a simple yet special dish perfect for those looking for something unique and healthy.
Main Ingredients- 1kg Beef brisket (thinly sliced, also known as Woo Sam Gyup)
- 1/3 bunch Water dropwort (Minari)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, thaw the frozen beef brisket. You can let it thaw naturally at room temperature or soak it in cold water. Gently pat it dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
Step 2
Wash the water dropwort thoroughly. Trim off the leafy parts and cut the stems into approximately 10cm (about 4-inch) lengths. The leafy parts can be saved for other dishes.
Step 3
Place a water dropwort stem at the end of a slice of beef brisket and roll it up tightly. Repeat this process for all the ingredients. Once rolled, season the outside of the rolls evenly with salt, pepper, and dried basil. Seasoning the rolls as a whole ensures the water dropwort also gets a subtle flavor.
Step 4
Prepare a steamer by filling it with water and bringing it to a boil. Arrange the prepared beef brisket and water dropwort rolls in the steamer and steam for 15-20 minutes. The rolls are fully cooked when the beef brisket changes from a vibrant red to a greyish hue. (Add more water to the steamer if needed during cooking.) After steaming, drizzle the 3 tablespoons of beef brisket special sauce over the rolls for an enhanced umami flavor. (This step is optional if you don’t have the sauce.)
