Ingredients- 1 bowl of warm cooked rice
- 1 can of tuna, drained
- 50g spinach, finely chopped
- 1/2 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- 1 tsp cooking oil
- Pinch of salt
- Pinch of black pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the spinach thoroughly and pat it dry. Chop it into approximately 1cm pieces. Peel and finely chop the onion. Have your minced garlic ready, as this will streamline the cooking process.
Step 2
Heat 1 teaspoon of cooking oil in a pan over low heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté gently until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
Step 3
Once the garlic releases its aroma, add the finely chopped onion to the pan. Stir-fry until the onion becomes translucent and slightly softened. Sautéing the onions well will enhance their natural sweetness, adding depth to the rice balls.
Step 4
When the onions are almost cooked through and have a sweet aroma, add the chopped spinach and a pinch of salt. Stir-fry together until the spinach wilts. Spinach cooks quickly, so use medium-high heat to maintain a slight crispness.
Step 5
Open the can of tuna and drain out all the oil. You can press the tuna gently with a spoon or fork against the strainer to remove any remaining liquid or oil effectively.
Step 6
Add the drained tuna to the pan with the sautéed spinach and onions. Sprinkle in a pinch of black pepper and gently mix everything together as you stir-fry briefly. Break up any large clumps of tuna.
Step 7
Remove the pan from the heat. Add the warm cooked rice to the mixture. Use a spatula or spoon to gently combine the rice with the spinach and tuna mixture until everything is evenly distributed. Avoid mashing the rice grains.
Step 8
Once the mixture has cooled slightly, put on some disposable gloves and shape the rice into bite-sized balls, about the size of a child’s fist. For extra flavor and appeal, you can roll them in sesame seeds or seaweed flakes.
