Delicious Triangle Rice Balls Made with Young Radish Kimchi
Let’s make simple and flavorful triangle rice balls using delicious young radish kimchi you have at home. These are refreshing and crunchy, perfect as a side dish for lunchboxes or a quick meal!
Main Ingredients- About 1/2 cup well-fermented young radish kimchi, chopped
- 2 sheets of seasoned seaweed (gim) or crumbled seasoned seaweed
- 1 bowl of warm cooked rice (approx. 200g)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the young radish kimchi. Shake off excess kimchi brine but don’t remove all of it. Chop the kimchi into small, bite-sized pieces. Transfer to a bowl and gently toss with 1/2 teaspoon of sesame oil. This enhances the savory flavor and aroma, making the rice balls even more delicious. Set aside the seasoned kimchi.
Step 2
Prepare the rice for the rice balls. In a bowl of warm rice, add 1/2 teaspoon of sesame oil and a pinch of salt (if using). Mix gently to season the rice evenly. It’s best to mix softly so the rice grains don’t clump. Now, press the seasoned rice firmly into a triangle rice ball mold. Pressing the rice tightly is crucial for maintaining the shape later.
Step 3
Once the mold is about 1/3 full of rice, add a generous portion of the prepared young radish kimchi on top. Be careful not to overfill, as it might cause the filling to separate from the rice. Aim to fill up to about half the height of the rice layer.
Step 4
After adding the kimchi filling, cover it with the remaining seasoned rice. Fill the mold to the top. Close the mold and press down firmly to shape the triangle. Carefully unmold to reveal the base of your delicious triangle rice ball.
Step 5
Decorate the sides of the finished rice ball by attaching seasoned seaweed (gim) or crumbled seaweed. You can cut the seaweed into strips to create a band around the rice ball, or press crumbled seaweed onto the rice for added texture and visual appeal. The seaweed also helps absorb moisture and keeps the shape intact.
Step 6
Your refreshing and crunchy young radish kimchi triangle rice balls are ready! They look as good as they taste and are perfect for a snack or a light meal. Enjoy your delicious creation!
