This fried rice is a perfect harmony of the tanginess from well-fermented kimchi and the savory saltiness of ham. A touch of soy sauce adds depth, while a hint of spice from chili peppers leaves a clean, delightful finish. It’s a simple yet incredibly flavorful meal that’s sure to please everyone!
Main Ingredients
- 200g well-fermented kimchi, finely chopped
- 1/2 can (small size) Spam, diced
- 1 Korean green chili pepper, finely chopped
- 2 bowls of cooked rice
- 1/2 stalk of green onion
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the ingredients that will add flavor to your fried rice. Dice the Spam into pieces roughly the same size as your chopped kimchi. Remove the seeds from the Korean green chili pepper and mince it finely. Finely slice the green onion.
Step 2
Heat a pan over medium heat and add 3 tablespoons of cooking oil. Add the minced garlic and sliced green onion, and sauté until the green onion releases a fragrant aroma, creating a savory green onion oil.
Step 3
Once the green onion is fragrant, add the diced Spam and chopped kimchi to the pan. Stir-fry them together until the Spam renders some fat and the kimchi becomes slightly translucent.
Step 4
Next, add 1 tablespoon of soy sauce and 0.5 tablespoon of sugar. Continue to stir-fry until the seasonings are evenly distributed and caramelize slightly with the kimchi and Spam. The sugar adds a subtle sweetness and enhances the savory flavors.
Step 5
Once the seasonings are well-볶아진 (stir-fried), add 2 bowls of warm cooked rice and 4 tablespoons of kimchi juice. The kimchi juice will contribute to the moisture and the signature tangy flavor of the fried rice.
Step 6
Using a spatula, break up any clumps of rice and stir-fry thoroughly until all the ingredients and seasonings are evenly mixed and the rice grains are slightly separated and toasted. Just before turning off the heat, stir in the finely chopped Korean green chili pepper and 1 tablespoon of sesame oil. Mix well. The spiciness of the chili and the nutty aroma of the sesame oil will elevate the overall flavor of the fried rice.
Step 7
