How to Make Delicious Ark Shell Salad for Bibimbap
Ark shells are named ‘Pikkomak’ because their flesh is a vibrant, blood-red color. I used pre-cleaned ones from the mart, making this recipe super easy! I’ll share this wonderfully spicy and tangy recipe right away!
Main Ingredients- Ark Shells (Pikkomak) 300-500g (cleaned)
- 1/2 Onion
- 1/2 Green Onion
- 1 Cucumber (optional)
Seasoning Ingredients- 6 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 2 Tbsp Plum Extract (Maesil Cheong)
- 2 Tbsp Cooking Wine (Mirin, etc.)
- 2 Tbsp Vinegar
- 1 Tbsp Oligodang (or Corn Syrup)
- 3 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean Chili Flakes)
- 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil (for finishing)
- Sesame Seeds (for finishing)
- 6 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 2 Tbsp Plum Extract (Maesil Cheong)
- 2 Tbsp Cooking Wine (Mirin, etc.)
- 2 Tbsp Vinegar
- 1 Tbsp Oligodang (or Corn Syrup)
- 3 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean Chili Flakes)
- 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil (for finishing)
- Sesame Seeds (for finishing)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the vegetables. Thinly slice half an onion. Slicing it thinly helps it absorb the seasoning better and improves the texture.
Step 2
Finely chop half a green onion, using both the white and green parts. The onion’s fragrance will add depth to the seasoning and enhance the overall flavor.
Step 3
Cucumber is optional, but adding it provides a refreshing crunch. Slice one cucumber into thin half-moon shapes.

Now, it’s time to mix everything together. In a large bowl, combine the sliced onion, chopped green onion, sliced cucumber, and the cleaned ark shells.

Let’s make the delicious sauce and add it in. To the bowl, add 6 Tbsp soy sauce, 2 Tbsp plum extract, 2 Tbsp cooking wine, 2 Tbsp vinegar, 1 Tbsp oligodang, 3 Tbsp gochugaru, and 1 Tbsp minced garlic. Gently mix everything with the other ingredients, being careful not to break the ark shells.
Step 6
Finally, drizzle in 1 Tbsp sesame oil for aroma and sprinkle with sesame seeds for a nutty finish. Mix well, and your delicious ark shell bibimbap topping is ready! Serve it generously over warm, freshly cooked rice for a truly delightful meal.
