Main Ingredients- 100g octopus or squid
- 1/5 zucchini
- 1/5 onion
- 1/5 carrot
- 3 cloves garlic
- 10cm segment of green onion
Seasoning- 1 tsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 2 tsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp oyster sauce
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp perilla oil
- 2 tsp toasted sesame seeds
- 1 tsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 2 tsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp oyster sauce
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp perilla oil
- 2 tsp toasted sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare all the vegetables by chopping them into bite-sized pieces. Slice 1/5 of a zucchini, 1/5 of an onion, and 1/5 of a carrot into approximately 0.5cm thick slices. Mince or thinly slice the garlic cloves. Chop the 10cm segment of green onion into large pieces. Pre-chopping the vegetables will help speed up the cooking process.
Step 2
Cut the 100g of octopus or squid into bite-sized pieces. If using frozen seafood, make sure to thaw it completely and pat it dry before cutting. To maintain a good texture, avoid cutting them too small; pieces around 2-3cm in length are recommended. (I personally used frozen octopus for convenience.)
Step 3
In a wide pan, add the prepared vegetables (zucchini, onion, carrot, garlic) and the cut octopus or squid. Pour in 100ml of water. Add all the seasoning ingredients: 1 tsp gochujang, 2 tsp gochugaru, 1 tsp soy sauce, 1 tsp sugar, 1 tsp oyster sauce, 1 tsp minced garlic, and 1 tsp perilla oil. Stir-fry over medium-high heat for about 3 minutes, ensuring everything is well combined. The key is to stir-fry just until the vegetables are tender-crisp, not overly soft.
Step 4
Check if the carrots are tender. Once they are cooked, turn off the heat. Finally, drizzle in 1 tsp of sesame oil and sprinkle 2 tsp of toasted sesame seeds for an aromatic finish. Adding sesame oil and seeds greatly enhances the flavor and aroma.
Step 5
Serve your delicious stir-fried squid/octopus beautifully. I enjoyed mine piled high on a bowl of warm rice, topped with a fried egg for a delicious donburi-style meal. If you have leafy greens like lettuce or perilla leaves, chop them finely and mix them in for an extra layer of freshness! It’s truly a taste sensation. *-* Enjoy this simple yet incredibly flavorful meal!
