Jerky for Drinks Turns into a Side Dish?! Eonam Teacher Ryu Soo-young’s Stir-fried Jerky Recipe
We usually enjoy jerky as a light snack with drinks or as a simple treat, but this recipe transforms it into a fantastic side dish for rice! I tried following the Eonam Teacher’s Gochujang Jerky recipe from ‘Pyeonstorange.’ It’s much simpler than making a beef-based gochujang sauce, yet it achieves a similar delicious flavor. This sweet and spicy stir-fried jerky is perfect for mixing into warm rice, creating a meal that’s truly a ‘rice thief’!
Main Ingredients- 80g beef jerky
- 50ml water
Seasoning Ingredients- 3 Tbsp Beomil Gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 0.5 Tbsp minced garlic
- 3 Tbsp sugar
- 3 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds
- 3 Tbsp Beomil Gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 0.5 Tbsp minced garlic
- 3 Tbsp sugar
- 3 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, use scissors or a knife to cut the 80g of beef jerky into bite-sized, easy-to-eat pieces. Cutting them into appropriate sizes is important, as overly large pieces might not absorb the sauce well.
Step 2
Heat a pan over medium heat. Add the cut jerky and 50ml of water. Stir and cook until the water has almost completely evaporated, allowing the jerky to soften and absorb the flavors. This step helps to tenderize the jerky’s chewy texture.
Step 3
Once all the water has evaporated from the pan, add all the prepared seasoning ingredients (3 Tbsp Beomil Gochujang, 0.5 Tbsp minced garlic, 3 Tbsp sugar, 3 Tbsp sesame oil, 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds). Reduce the heat to low to prevent burning, and stir-fry for about 1-2 more minutes until all the ingredients are well combined and coated, giving it a glossy and appetizing appearance. Your delicious stir-fried jerky with gochujang is now complete!
