Main Ingredients

  • About 300g of rectangular fish cakes (about 3-4 pieces)
  • 1 king oyster mushroom
  • 1/4 onion
  • 1 piece of carrot (about 3-4 cm long)

Seasoning Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 2/3 Tbsp red pepper flakes (gochugaru)
  • 1 Tbsp corn syrup (oligo-dang)
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil
  • A pinch of sesame seeds

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare your ingredients. Cut the fish cakes into bite-sized pieces, about 2cm wide. Slice the king oyster mushroom into 2cm lengths. Thinly slice the onion and the carrot into matchsticks of a similar length. Heat 1 tablespoon of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the sliced onion, carrot, and king oyster mushroom, and stir-fry until the onion becomes translucent, bringing out the natural sweetness of the vegetables.

Step 2

Once the vegetables are slightly softened, add the cut fish cakes to the pan and continue to stir-fry. When the fish cakes begin to soften, add 1 tablespoon of sugar and 1 tablespoon of soy sauce. Stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes, ensuring the seasoning coats all the ingredients evenly. Keep the heat on medium-low during this stage to prevent the sauce from burning.

Step 2

Step 3

Turn off the heat. Add the remaining seasoning ingredients: 2/3 tablespoon of red pepper flakes, 1 tablespoon of corn syrup, and 1 tablespoon of sesame oil. Mix everything thoroughly until well combined. Finally, sprinkle with sesame seeds to finish. This perfectly prepared stir-fried fish cake is an excellent side dish that pairs wonderfully with a warm bowl of rice. Make a batch and enjoy it for days to come!
