  • 1 Tbsp Corn syrup (or other liquid sweetener)
  • 1/2 Tbsp Minced garlic (optional, for enhanced flavor!)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Let’s begin making this delicious Spicy & Sweet Skewered Fish Cake Tteokbokki that the whole family will love!

Step 1

Step 2

Prepare a rich and flavorful broth. In a pot, combine 500ml of water with 1 broth cube and bring to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce heat to medium-low and let the broth infuse.

Step 2

Step 3

Time to make the delicious Tteokbokki sauce! In a bowl, mix 2 Tbsp Gochujang, 2 Tbsp Gochugaru, 1 Tbsp sugar, 1 Tbsp corn syrup, and (optionally) 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic until smooth and lump-free. You can substitute sugar with oligosaccharide if preferred.

Step 3

Step 4

Add the Tteokbokki rice cakes to the prepared broth and cook over medium heat. Stir occasionally to prevent the rice cakes from sticking together. Once the rice cakes start to soften, reduce the heat to low and continue cooking, being careful to prevent the sauce from burning.

Step 4

Step 5

Now it’s time to add the skewered fish cakes! Arrange the 9 skewered fish cakes neatly in the Tteokbokki pot. Spoon the prepared spicy and sweet Gochujang sauce evenly over the fish cakes. This helps the sauce penetrate the fish cakes well.

Step 5

Step 6

To ensure the fish cakes absorb the sauce fully, gently flip them over and cook for another 2-3 minutes. Adding a generous amount of diagonally sliced green onions at this stage will add a wonderful aroma and enhance the flavor.

Step 6

Step 7

Simmer over low heat until the sauce thickens slightly and coats the rice cakes and fish cakes with a glossy sheen. The Tteokbokki is ready when a chopstick can easily pierce a rice cake.

Step 7

Step 8

Finally, halve the pre-boiled egg and place it attractively on top of the Tteokbokki. The creamy egg yolk mixed with the spicy Tteokbokki sauce creates a perfect harmony of flavors.

Step 8

Step 9

Your mouth-watering Spicy & Sweet Skewered Fish Cake Tteokbokki is ready! It’s best enjoyed warm. Share this delightful dish with your family and create wonderful mealtime memories!
