Main Ingredients

  • 9 sheets of square fish cake

Seasoning

  • 1.5 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 2 Tbsp Soy sauce
  • 2 Tbsp Mirin (rice wine)
  • 2 Tbsp Oligodang (corn syrup) or Mulyeot (corn syrup)
  • 1/2 Tbsp Sesame oil
  • 2 Tbsp Cooking oil
  • 1/2 Tbsp Minced garlic
  • A pinch of sesame seeds
  • A pinch of black pepper

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the 9 sheets of square fish cakes. Cut them lengthwise into bite-sized pieces, about 1cm thick and 5-7cm long. Blanch the cut fish cakes in boiling water for about 10 seconds. This step removes impurities and excess oil, resulting in a cleaner taste and a chewier texture. After blanching, rinse them under cold water and squeeze out any excess moisture.

Step 2

Now, let’s make the delicious seasoning! In a bowl, combine 1.5 Tbsp Gochujang, 2 Tbsp Soy sauce, 2 Tbsp Mirin, 2 Tbsp Oligodang, 1/2 Tbsp Minced garlic, and a pinch of black pepper. Mix them well. Heat 2 Tbsp of cooking oil in a pan and pour in the seasoning mixture. Once the sauce starts to bubble over medium heat, add all the prepared fish cakes. Reduce the heat to medium-low and stir-fry, being careful not to burn the sauce.

Step 2

Step 3

Continue to stir-fry for about 3-5 minutes, ensuring the sauce coats the fish cakes evenly. When the fish cakes absorb the sauce and start to look glossy, they are almost ready. Just before turning off the heat, drizzle in 1/2 Tbsp of sesame oil and sprinkle a pinch of sesame seeds to finish. The nutty aroma of sesame oil and the crunchy texture of sesame seeds will enhance the flavor. This dish is perfect served over a bowl of warm rice!
