Main Ingredients- 4 pieces fish cakes (Korean style, rectangular)
- 1/2 onion
- 1/3 stalk green onion
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the fish cakes. Slice the rectangular fish cakes diagonally into bite-sized pieces. Cutting them not too thinly will help maintain their texture and allow them to absorb the sauce well.
Step 2
Wash and peel the onion, then slice it into thin strips. As it cooks, the onion will soften and add a natural sweetness to the dish.
Step 3
Finely chop the green onion. Using a mix of both the white and green parts will add a fragrant aroma to your stir-fry.
Step 4
Now, let’s make the delicious sauce! In a small bowl, combine 1 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp sugar, 1/2 Tbsp mala sauce, a pinch of black pepper, 1 Tbsp red chili powder (gochugaru), and 1 Tbsp minced garlic. Mix everything well. Feel free to adjust the amount of mala sauce to your preference.
Step 5
Place the cooking oil and the chopped green onions into a pan (do not heat it yet). Turn the heat to medium-high and stir-fry the green onions. Sautéing the green onions in oil helps to release their aromatic compounds, enhancing the overall flavor of the dish.
Step 6
Once you can smell the fragrant aroma from the green onions, add the sliced onions and fish cakes to the pan. Reduce the heat to medium and continue to stir-fry. Cook until the onions become translucent and the fish cakes are softened.
Step 7
When the fish cakes and onions are cooked to your liking, pour in all the prepared sauce. Increase the heat to high and stir-fry quickly. Keep stir-frying rapidly to prevent the sauce from burning, ensuring it coats the fish cakes evenly. Your flavorful Mala Fish Cake Stir-fry is ready when it looks glossy and delicious!
