Bibim Naengmyeon. How to Make the Perfect Sauce.
Let’s make a simple and delicious Bibim Naengmyeon (Korean spicy mixed noodles) at home.
Noodles & Vegetables- 2 servings of store-bought Naengmyeon noodles
- 1 handful of carrots (julienned)
- 2 slices of pickled radish (danmuji) (julienned)
- 1 pinch of nuts (e.g., chopped walnuts, almonds)
- 3 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1 Tbsp vinegar
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp Gochugaru (Korean chili powder)
- 1 handful of cucumber (julienned)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare 2 servings of store-bought Naengmyeon noodles. You can use fresh or dried noodles; follow the package instructions for best results.
Step 2
Next, prepare the fresh vegetables that will be used as toppings. Wash the carrots, pickled radish, and cucumber, then julienne them finely. These add color and a refreshing crunch to the dish.
Step 3
Boil the prepared Naengmyeon noodles in plenty of boiling water according to the package directions. This usually takes about 1 to 3 minutes.
Step 4
Immediately after boiling, rinse the noodles thoroughly under cold running water to remove excess starch, then drain them very well. This step is crucial for achieving firm, chewy noodles that don’t get mushy. Now, let’s make the delicious Bibim sauce. In a bowl, combine 3 tablespoons of Gochujang, 1 tablespoon of vinegar, 1 teaspoon of sugar, and 1 teaspoon of Gochugaru. Mix well until there are no lumps. You can substitute sugar with corn syrup or honey for a different sweetness profile.
Step 5
Place the well-drained noodles in a serving bowl. Arrange the julienned carrots, pickled radish, and cucumber attractively on top of the noodles. Finally, sprinkle a pinch of nuts over the toppings for added texture and nutty flavor.
Step 6
Spoon the prepared spicy and sweet Bibim sauce over the toppings in the bowl. Now, using chopsticks or a spoon, vigorously mix all the ingredients and the sauce together until well combined. Your delicious Bibim Naengmyeon is ready to be enjoyed!
