Main Ingredients

  • Frozen dumplings, as needed

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

To achieve crispy dumplings, heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a frying pan. Place the frozen dumplings in the pan and cook over medium-low heat. Gently move the dumplings initially to prevent sticking.

Step 1

Step 2

After placing the dumplings, and before the oil gets too hot over low heat, add about 2-3 tablespoons of water. Immediately cover with a lid to steam the dumplings until tender and moist. This step helps create a chewy dumpling skin.

Step 2

Step 3

While the dumplings are cooking, let’s prepare the delicious sauce. In a small bowl, combine 1 Tbsp sugar, 2 Tbsp soy sauce, 2 Tbsp water, 1 Tbsp oyster sauce, 2 Tbsp vinegar, and 1 tsp minced garlic. Mix well. This is a golden ratio for a perfect sweet, sour, and spicy flavor!

Step 3

Step 4

Prepare the scallions and Cheongyang peppers to add flavor to the sauce. Finely chop the scallions and mince the Cheongyang peppers after removing the seeds. You can adjust the amount of Cheongyang peppers to control the spiciness according to your preference. Add the prepared scallions and peppers to the sauce bowl and mix thoroughly.

Step 4

Step 5

After about 8-10 minutes of frying, the dumplings should be golden brown and crispy. Once cooked, drain any excess oil and transfer the dumplings to a wide plate or serving dish. Steaming them with a little water and a lid earlier helps ensure the inside is cooked through.

Step 6

Now, it’s time to prepare the sauce that will make the dumplings even more delicious. In a clean frying pan, add a tiny bit of minced garlic (optional) and pour in the prepared sauce. Simmer for about 1 minute over medium-low heat to concentrate the flavors. Be careful not to overcook, as it can burn.

Step 6

Step 7

Add the crispy fried dumplings, which were set aside on a plate, into the warm sauce in the frying pan. Quickly toss and mix them to ensure the dumplings are evenly coated with the sauce. Stir gently to avoid breaking the dumplings.

Step 7

Step 8

Finally, transfer the sauce-coated Bibim Mandu to a nice serving bowl. Garnish with a sprinkle of chopped scallions and sesame seeds for a dish that looks as good as it tastes! This is a perfect dish for a simple lunch or even as a snack with drinks.
