Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare all the ingredients according to the recipe. The recipe above serves 2-3 people. When increasing or decreasing the ingredients, remember to adjust the sauce proportions accordingly to maintain the flavor balance. The ratio of bean sprouts to pork belly is key!
Step 2
The secret to a rich flavor is to prepare the sauce in advance, which significantly shortens cooking time. Combine Gochugaru, Gochujang, sugar, soy sauce, minced garlic, mirin, and plum extract in a bowl. Mix them well until there are no lumps. It’s important to stir until the sugar is dissolved.
Step 3
Now, let’s start stir-frying! Prepare a wide and deep pan. First, spread a generous amount of washed bean sprouts evenly on the bottom of the pan. Then, arrange the thinly sliced pork belly on top of the bean sprouts without overlapping.
Step 4
Next, stir-fry the bean sprouts and pork belly together over high heat for just a brief moment until they start to combine. Avoid overcooking, as the pork belly can become tough. Cook just enough to lightly sear the surface.
Step 5
Once the ingredients are lightly cooked, pour the pre-made delicious sauce into the center of the pan. While stir-frying over high heat, be careful not to burn the sauce. Quickly mix everything together so the sauce coats the bean sprouts and pork belly evenly. Once the sauce starts to bubble, reduce the heat slightly.
Step 6
As sizzling sounds fill the air and a spicy-sweet aroma arises, you’re almost done! When the sauce thickens and clings to the ingredients, the mouth-watering Baek Jong-won style Kongnamul Bulgogi will appear before your eyes.
Step 7
Oops, something’s missing! Lastly, add the thickly chopped green onions, red chili pepper, and green chili pepper to add rich flavor and color. Give it one last quick mix. The fragrant green onions and pungent chilies will cut through the richness and add a refreshing taste.
Step 8
Ta-da! And just like that, a Kongnamul Bulgogi that’s incredibly simple to make but tastes absolutely amazing is complete. The cooking process isn’t complicated and the ingredients are easily accessible, making it a dish anyone can try. It’s delicious served over rice as a rice bowl, or as a fantastic accompaniment to a cold beer. Enjoy your meal!
