Main Ingredients- 500g cleaned baby octopus
- A little cooked octopus
- 1/2 onion
- A little carrot (approx. 1/4)
- A little cabbage (approx. 1/4 head)
- 1/2 stalk green onion
- 1 chili pepper (e.g., Cheongyang chili)
Spicy Seasoning- 1 Tbsp fish sauce or soy sauce
- 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp cooking wine (mirin or rice wine)
- 1/2 Tbsp hot pepper flakes (for spiciness)
- 2 pinches salt
- 1 Tbsp fish sauce or soy sauce
- 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp cooking wine (mirin or rice wine)
- 1/2 Tbsp hot pepper flakes (for spiciness)
- 2 pinches salt
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Heat 1-2 Tbsp of cooking oil in a wide pan over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and julienned carrot and stir-fry until the onion becomes translucent and the carrot slightly tender. This process brings out the natural sweetness of the vegetables.
Step 2
Once the onion starts to soften, add the shredded cabbage and stir-fry together for another 1-2 minutes, just until the cabbage is tender-crisp. We want to maintain some crunch.
Step 3
Add the cleaned baby octopus to the pan. Increase the heat to high and stir-fry quickly. Baby octopus cooks fast; avoid overcooking, as it can become tough. Cook just until the color changes.
Step 4
Add the cooked octopus, cut into bite-sized pieces, and stir-fry with the baby octopus. Also add the chopped green onion and the chili pepper (seeds removed and finely chopped). Continue to stir-fry everything together for about 1 minute until well combined.
Step 5
Now, add all the prepared spicy seasoning ingredients (fish sauce/soy sauce, minced garlic, cooking wine, hot pepper flakes, and salt) to the pan. Stir-fry quickly over high heat for 1-2 minutes until the sauce coats the seafood and vegetables evenly. This completes the stir-fry. For an extra touch of flavor, drizzle a few drops of sesame oil. Serve it over rice, optionally with blanched seasoned bean sprouts for a complete and delicious meal.
