Experience a delightful spicy and savory stir-fried octopus dish, infused with the wonderful fragrance of scallions.
Main Ingredients- 1 large octopus, cleaned
- 3 stalks of scallions
- 2 red chilies
- 2 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 2 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp mirin (rice wine)
- 2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 2 Tbsp sugar
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Begin by heating a pan over medium heat. Add a generous amount of avocado oil or your preferred cooking oil. Add the chopped scallions and reduce the heat to low. Sauté the scallions gently until their fragrant aroma is released, creating a flavorful scallion oil. This step is key to deepening the dish’s overall flavor.
Step 2
Add the prepared octopus, cut into bite-sized pieces, to the pan. Stir-fry the octopus with the scallions, ensuring they are well combined. Be careful not to overcook the octopus, as it can become tough. A quick stir-fry is best.

Now, add all the seasoning ingredients at once and stir-fry over high heat. Combine the gochugaru, mirin, soy sauce, sugar, and minced garlic. Stir-fry vigorously until the octopus is evenly coated with the sauce. Cooking over high heat helps the gochugaru release its natural chili oil, resulting in a more appealing color and richer taste.

Taste the dish while cooking and adjust the seasoning according to your preference. You can add more gochugaru for extra spice or a little more sugar if you prefer a sweeter taste.
