Spicy & Savory Stir-Fried Squid: A Delicious Korean Classic
Korean side dish, perfect for dinner or as a drinking snack, spicy seasoned stew, similar to Dakgalbi
Let’s make a delicious stir-fried squid that’s perfectly spicy and has a wonderfully chewy texture. This recipe is easy to follow and results in a fantastic dish!
Main Ingredients- 3 squid (body length approx. 20cm each)
- A little cooking oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Let’s begin making stir-fried squid with delightful scoring that allows the sauce to penetrate beautifully.
Step 2
Prepare the squid by thoroughly cleaning it, removing the innards and quill. Score the body of the squid in a diamond pattern; this helps the sauce absorb better and creates a wonderfully chewy texture. Cut the squid into bite-sized pieces (about 2-3cm wide).
Step 3
Heat 1-2 tablespoons of cooking oil in a wide pan over medium heat. Add the onion, cabbage, and carrot, and stir-fry for 1-2 minutes until slightly softened but still crisp. Once the vegetables begin to turn translucent, add all the seasoning sauce ingredients (2 Tbsp Gochujang, 1 tsp Gochugaru, 1 Tbsp Soy sauce, 1 tsp Sugar, 1 tsp Minced garlic, 1 tsp Toasted sesame seeds). Mix well. You can also add sesame oil at this stage if you like.
Step 4
Once the vegetables are somewhat coated with the sauce, add the prepared squid, chopped green onion, and sliced green chili pepper. Increase the heat to high and stir-fry quickly for 2-3 minutes until the squid turns opaque and the sauce is well combined. It’s important to stir-fry rapidly to prevent the squid from becoming tough. Don’t overcook!
Step 5
When all ingredients are coated with the sauce and the squid is cooked to a delightful finish, turn off the heat. This dish is perfect served over warm rice as a hearty meal, or enjoyed with a cold beer or soju as a fantastic appetizer. Enjoy your delicious stir-fried squid!
