Ingredients

  • Salted Squid 3-4 Tbsp (chopped into bite-sized pieces)
  • Cooked Rice 2.5 bowls (warm)
  • Green Onion 1/2 stalk (thinly sliced)
  • Onion 1/2 (finely chopped)
  • Minced Garlic 1 Tbsp
  • Butter 25g (approx. 2 Tbsp)
  • Eggs 3
  • Black Pepper, a pinch
  • Sesame Oil 1 Tbsp
  • Cooking Oil 2 Tbsp
  • Sesame Seeds, a pinch (for garnish)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the vegetables that will add flavor to your stir-fried rice. Thinly slice the green onion to enhance its aroma, and finely chop the onion. This preparation ensures the vegetables cook well and meld harmoniously with other ingredients during stir-frying.

Step 1

Step 2

Prepare the star ingredient: salted squid. Adjust the amount based on its saltiness. If the pieces are too long, you can cut them into more manageable, bite-sized pieces with scissors.

Step 2

Step 3

Heat a wide pan over medium heat and add 25g of butter. Let it melt slowly. The rich, buttery aroma will elevate the overall flavor of the stir-fried rice. Be careful not to burn the butter.

Step 3

Step 4

Once the butter has melted, add the sliced green onions, chopped onion, and 1 Tbsp of minced garlic. Reduce the heat to low and sauté until fragrant, making sure they don’t burn. It’s important to cook them thoroughly until the onions become translucent and a pleasant aroma fills the air.

Step 4

Step 5

When the green onions and garlic are well-cooked and aromatic, add 3-4 Tbsp of the prepared salted squid. Stir-fry them together, breaking up any clumps with your spatula. The savory flavor of the squid will blend beautifully with the butter and vegetables, creating a delicious base.

Step 5

Step 6

Now, add 2.5 bowls of warm cooked rice to the pan. Stir-fry the rice, breaking it up with your spatula, ensuring it mixes well with the squid and vegetables. Aim for fluffy, separated grains of rice.

Step 6

Step 7

Once the rice is evenly combined with the other ingredients, sprinkle in a pinch of black pepper for added flavor. Finally, drizzle in 1 Tbsp of sesame oil and mix thoroughly. The sesame oil will release a wonderful nutty aroma.

Step 7

Step 8

In a separate pan, heat 2 Tbsp of cooking oil over medium heat. Carefully crack 3 eggs into the hot oil and fry them until they are golden brown and slightly crispy, like a ‘fried’ egg. A sunny-side-up egg with a runny yolk is perfect for mixing into the rice.

Step 8

Step 9

Plate the finished salted squid stir-fried rice attractively. Top it with the freshly made, warm fried egg. Sprinkle a generous pinch of sesame seeds over the top for a final touch. Your delicious and visually appealing salted squid stir-fried rice is ready to be enjoyed!
