Seasoning Ingredients
- 1 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 2 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 1 Tbsp mirin (cooking wine)
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp oligosaccharide (or corn syrup)
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
Optional Ingredients
- 1 Manbiki character figure (for decoration, optional)
- 1 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 2 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 1 Tbsp mirin (cooking wine)
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp oligosaccharide (or corn syrup)
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
Optional Ingredients
- 1 Manbiki character figure (for decoration, optional)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the green onion by washing it thoroughly and finely chopping it. This will add a wonderful aroma and flavor to your spicy red fish cakes. Using a mix of the green and white parts will enhance the taste.
Step 2
Cut the flat fish cakes into bite-sized pieces (about 3-4 sections per sheet). Then, thread them onto bamboo skewers. Try not to overlap the fish cakes too much on the skewers to ensure the sauce coats them evenly and deliciously.
Step 3
In a deep pot, combine the 5 cups of anchovy-kelp broth with all the seasoning ingredients: 1 Tbsp gochujang, 2 Tbsp gochugaru, 1 Tbsp mirin, 1 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp oligosaccharide, and 1 Tbsp minced garlic. Whisk everything together until smooth, ensuring there are no lumps. Bring this mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat to create the flavorful sauce.
Step 4
Once the sauce is bubbling nicely, carefully add the skewered fish cakes into the pot. Gently stir them to ensure they are submerged in the sauce and begin to cook.
Step 5
Continue to simmer for about 3-5 minutes after adding the fish cakes. This allows the fish cakes to absorb the delicious spicy sauce. When the sauce has thickened slightly and the fish cakes look glossy, add the chopped green onions. Simmer for another minute, and your delicious spicy red fish cakes are ready! You can add the ‘Manbiki character figure’ for a cute touch if you like.
Step 6
Serve immediately while warm. These spicy and sweet red fish cake skewers are fantastic as a side dish with rice or as a delightful accompaniment to beer!
