Main Ingredients

  • 100g dried shredded squid (available at most supermarkets)

Sauce Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp mayonnaise (adds creaminess)
  • 1/2 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste) (the key to the spicy flavor)
  • 1/4 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes) (adjusts color and spiciness)
  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce (adds umami)
  • 2/3 Tbsp sugar (balances sweetness for umami)
  • 1/2 Tbsp sesame oil (for nutty aroma)
  • 1/2 Tbsp corn syrup or rice syrup (for gloss and sweetness)
  • 1 Tbsp water (to adjust sauce consistency)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, in a small bowl, combine all the sauce ingredients: mayonnaise, gochujang, gochugaru, soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, corn syrup, and water. Note: The video version uses standard Korean spoon measurements, but this recipe is based on standard tablespoon (15ml) measurements. For precise cooking, use tablespoons. If you prefer using Korean spoons, please refer to the video. (Watching the recipe video is a great support for recipe creators!)

Step 1

Step 2

Heat a frying pan over medium heat. Add all the prepared sauce ingredients and bring to a gentle simmer. Once the sauce starts to bubble, add the 100g of dried shredded squid. Tip: For a softer texture, soak the dried shredded squid in cold water for about 10 minutes before cooking. Be careful not to soak it for too long, as it can lose its flavor.

Step 2

Step 3

After adding the squid, reduce the heat to low. It’s important to stir-fry slowly to allow the sauce to evenly coat and penetrate the squid. If the sauce becomes too thick and sticky before it’s fully absorbed, add an extra tablespoon of water to adjust the consistency and continue stir-frying. This prevents the squid from burning and ensures it stays moist.

Step 3

Step 4

Once the squid is well-coated and stir-fried, cut it into bite-sized pieces. Usually, cutting it 2-3 times with scissors makes it easier to pick up with chopsticks. Alternatively, you can cut the squid into smaller pieces before stir-frying for even better sauce distribution.
