Spicy and Sweet Whelk and Octopus Salad
The Perfect Soju Accompaniment! Whelk and Octopus Salad with Enoki Mushroom Noodles (Diet-Friendly Too!)
As the weather gets cooler, I find myself craving a glass of soju. Lately, I’ve been particularly drawn to the classic soju and beer mix! Today, I’m sharing a recipe for a delicious, spicy, and slightly sweet Whelk and Octopus Salad, estimated at around 200 kcal per serving. It’s incredibly simple! Just grab a pack of pre-sliced whelk and octopus from the market, mix it with the vegetables you have at home, and you’re done. I often buy large salad packs, but sometimes they get a bit wilted and unusable. That’s when this whelk salad becomes a fantastic lifesaver! If you’re on a diet and a spicy craving hits hard, I believe enjoying this is perfectly acceptable. Let’s diet happily while eating deliciously! (By the way, I successfully lost 11kg in 60 days on my diet:))
Main Ingredients- 200g sliced whelk & octopus
- 100g salad greens (use a variety of greens you have at home)
- 1/2 onion
- 1/2 green onion
- 1 Cheongyang chili pepper (for extra spice)
- 25g dried pollack jerky (adjust to your preference)
Seasoning- 2 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 5 Tbsp rice vinegar (add a little more if you prefer a tangier flavor)
- 2 Tbsp oligo syrup (adjust sweetness to your taste)
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
Optional Ingredients- 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds
- 2 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 5 Tbsp rice vinegar (add a little more if you prefer a tangier flavor)
- 2 Tbsp oligo syrup (adjust sweetness to your taste)
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
Optional Ingredients- 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare your vegetables. Slice the green onion lengthwise, and thinly slice the onion. Finely chop the Cheongyang chili pepper to add a spicy kick. (Tip: If you want to reduce the pungency of the onion, soak the slices in cold water for about 10 minutes, then drain before using.)
Step 2
Wash the salad greens thoroughly under running water and drain well. (Tip: Even slightly wilted greens can be wonderfully revived in this salad!)
Step 3
Now, let’s make the dressing. In a bowl, combine the gochujang, rice vinegar, oligo syrup, minced garlic, and sesame oil. Mix them well until you have a smooth, delicious sauce.
Step 4
Place the prepared sliced whelk and octopus, chopped vegetables, salad greens, and the dried pollack jerky into a large bowl. (Tip: Adding the dried pollack jerky provides a chewy texture and extra protein, making the dish more satisfying.)
Step 5
Pour the prepared dressing over the ingredients in the bowl. Gently toss everything together until well combined. (Tip: It’s important to mix gently to ensure the dressing coats all the ingredients evenly without breaking them.)
Step 6
You can enjoy this delicious Whelk and Octopus Salad as is, or serve it with chewy somen noodles or pan-seared enoki mushrooms for an even more delightful meal. (Tip: Lightly grilling the enoki mushrooms offers a different texture and flavor profile without adding many calories.)
Step 7
Voila! Your mouthwatering Whelk and Octopus Salad is ready! Its sweet, tangy, and spicy flavors are sure to tantalize your taste buds. Enjoy your meal!
