Main Ingredients
  • 1 Ramyeon noodle packet
  • 10 Tteokbokki rice cakes
  • 3 sheets of fish cake
  • 4 leaves of cabbage (Napa or regular)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

In a wide pot, combine all the sauce ingredients that will create the delicious tteokbokki base. Add 2 Tbsp of gochujang, 2 Tbsp of gochugaru, 1 Tbsp of soy sauce, 2 Tbsp of corn syrup for sweetness, 1 Tbsp of minced garlic for depth of flavor, and 2 Tbsp of chopped green onion for aroma. Mix them well.

Step 2

Pour 700ml of dried pollack broth into the pot with the mixed sauce. Bring to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat and let it simmer gently until the seasonings have fully dissolved into the broth, creating a rich and flavorful base. This step ensures a deep and satisfying tteokbokki broth.

Step 3

Traditionally, crisp cabbage is added for texture, but I’m substituting with leftover regular cabbage I have. Feel free to use what you have on hand! I’m making a generous amount of broth today to freeze portions for later. This way, you can easily prepare tteokbokki or rabokki whenever the craving strikes.

Step 4

Once the broth is rich and flavorful, add the chewy tteokbokki rice cakes. Continue to boil until the rice cakes are soft and have absorbed the delicious broth flavor.

Step 5

When the rice cakes are nicely coated with the thick sauce, add the fish cakes (cut into bite-sized pieces) and the ramyeon noodles. Cook until the noodles are tender and cooked through. As it simmers, the sauce will thicken, allowing the delicious flavor to permeate the noodles and rice cakes.

Step 6

Notice how the broth has transformed from a clear red to a thick and rich consistency? It’s delicious as is, but for an extra treat, you can top it with plenty of cheese or serve it with a hard-boiled egg!

Step 7

And there you have it! A perfectly balanced rabokki with a rich, refreshing broth, a delightful kick of spice, and a touch of sweetness. Enjoy this hearty and satisfying Korean street food feast with your family!
