Spicy and Sweet Stir-Fried Pork with Smoky Flavor
How to Make Delicious Stir-Fried Pork with a Hint of Smoky Flavor
I made this stir-fried pork using thinly sliced pork belly, but you can absolutely use regular pork belly if that’s what you have on hand. In fact, regular pork belly often yields a richer flavor for this dish. This recipe aims to deliver a delightful balance of spicy and sweet flavors with a hint of smokiness. Enjoy this flavorful dish that’s perfect with a bowl of rice!
Main Ingredients- 300g Pork Belly (thinly sliced or regular cut)
- 1/2 Onion
Seasoning Mix- 1.5 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 0.5 Tbsp Sugar
- A pinch of Sesame Seeds
- 1.5 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 0.5 Tbsp Sugar
- A pinch of Sesame Seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the pork. If you’re using thinly sliced pork belly, use it as is. If you’re using regular pork belly, cut it into bite-sized pieces, slightly larger than typical. Cutting it too small can cause it to lose moisture and become dry when cooked.
Step 2
Heat a pan over medium-high heat without adding any oil. Add the prepared pork belly and stir-fry until the pink color just starts to disappear. It’s important not to overcook it at this stage; just cook it enough to remove the raw appearance. This helps to remove any porky odor and lock in the juices.
Step 3
Once the pork starts to lose its pinkness, add 0.5 Tbsp of sugar and stir-fry lightly. The sugar helps to enhance the savory notes of the pork and allows the sauce to adhere better.
Step 4
Next, add 1.5 Tbsp of minced garlic and stir-fry until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes. You want to release the aromatic garlic essence. Then, add the 1/2 onion, thinly sliced, and stir-fry along with the pork. If you don’t have onions, you can omit them, but they add a wonderful sweetness and depth of flavor!
Step 5
Push the pork and onions to one side of the pan. Pour 2 Tbsp of soy sauce into the empty space. Let the soy sauce bubble and caramelize slightly for a few seconds. Then, mix it thoroughly with the pork and onions and continue to stir-fry.
Step 6
Now, add 1 Tbsp of gochugaru (Korean chili flakes). Stir well to ensure the chili flakes are evenly distributed and cook for another minute or so until the sauce thickens slightly and coats the pork beautifully.
Step 7
Transfer the cooked stir-fried pork to a serving plate. Sprinkle generously with sesame seeds for a final touch. Your delicious and flavorful stir-fried pork is ready to be enjoyed! Serve hot with steamed rice.
