Main Ingredients

  • Dried squid strips (Jinmichae) 130g

Seasoning Ingredients

  • Gochujang (Korean chili paste) 1 Tbsp
  • Stevia 2 tsp
  • Minced garlic 1 tsp
  • Soy sauce 1 tsp
  • Plum extract 1/2 tsp
  • Sesame oil 1/2 tsp
  • Mayonnaise 2 tsp
  • Sesame seeds (whole or toasted) 2-3 tsp
  • Olive oil, a little (for stir-frying)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, cut the long dried squid strips into bite-sized pieces, about 5-7 cm (2-3 inches) in length. This makes them easier to eat.

Step 1

Step 2

Place the cut squid strips in a bowl. Add the mayonnaise (2 tsp) and gently toss to coat. Let it sit for about 10 minutes. This step softens the squid strips, making them more tender and ready to absorb the sauce.

Step 2

Step 3

While the squid is softening, prepare the seasoning. In a small bowl, combine gochujang (1 Tbsp), stevia (2 tsp), minced garlic (1 tsp), soy sauce (1 tsp), and plum extract (1/2 tsp). Mix well until thoroughly combined.

Step 3

Step 4

Heat a non-stick pan over low heat. Add a very small amount of olive oil and the softened squid strips. Stir-fry gently over low heat until the squid strips turn a light golden brown and become slightly chewy. Be careful not to burn them.

Step 4

Step 5

Once the squid strips are nicely browned, add the prepared seasoning mixture to the pan. Stir continuously to coat the squid evenly with the sauce. Continue to stir-fry for another 1-2 minutes over low heat, ensuring the sauce doesn’t burn.

Step 5

Step 6

Turn off the heat. Stir in the sesame oil (1/2 tsp) and sesame seeds (2-3 tsp). Give it a final mix. Transfer the finished stir-fried squid to a container.

Step 6

Step 7

Enjoy your delicious homemade spicy and sweet stir-fried dried squid strips! They are perfect for a satisfying meal or a tasty snack. Store in the refrigerator for a delicious side dish that lasts for several days.
