Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Please refer to the photo and accompanying text for detailed instructions. First, wash the peppers thoroughly and prepare them.
Step 2
Drain the washed peppers completely in a colander. Leaving water on the peppers can cause splattering or clumping when stir-frying.
Step 3
Finely mince the drained Cheongyang peppers. Including the seeds will make the dish even spicier.
Step 4
Using kitchen shears with a cutter (cha-kal ga-wi) makes mincing easier. These are readily available online or at stores like Daiso.
Step 5
If you don’t have kitchen shears, mince the peppers with a knife. The capsaicin can irritate your hands, so be sure to wear disposable gloves while chopping!
Step 6
Add 4 tablespoons of cooking oil to a wide pan.
Step 7
Start cooking over medium heat. Once the pan is hot, reduce the heat to low and stir-fry the peppers, adjusting the heat as needed to prevent burning. Cook until the peppers slightly wilt.
Step 8
Once the peppers have slightly wilted, add the seasonings and adjust the taste. Add minced garlic, fish sauce, sugar, and soy sauce for soup in order.
Step 9
Refer to the on-screen text captions for the correct seasoning ratios.
Step 10
Continue stir-frying over low heat after adding the seasonings. Cooking slowly over low heat allows the peppers to fully soften and absorb the flavors, deepening the taste. Once the peppers are completely tender, they are done.
Step 11
Finally, add a little sesame oil and toasted sesame seeds, stir once more, and your Gochujangmul is complete.
Step 12
This dish is delicious mixed with rice on its own, but it’s absolutely fantastic when paired with a fried egg! Definitely give it a try.
Step 13
You can adjust the spiciness by controlling the amount of stir-fried minced peppers you mix with your rice.
Step 14
It’s also a tasty snack when wrapped in seaweed (gim). If you add this to your gimbap (seaweed rice rolls), it will taste just like the ‘ttengcho gimbap’ (spicy pepper gimbap) from specialized stores! It’s incredibly good. ^^ You must try making it! ^^ Once made, it can be stored in the refrigerator and enjoyed whenever you like, so making a large batch at once is highly recommended.
