Main Ingredients
  • 200g Fish cake (eomuk)
  • 1/2 Onion
  • Carrot (about the same amount as the onion)
  • 1/2 stalk Green onion

Seasoning
  • 1/2 cup Vegetable broth or water (using a paper cup)
  • 2 Tbsp Soy sauce
  • 2 Tbsp Oligosaccharide (or corn syrup)
  • 2 Tbsp Gochugaru oil (chili oil)
  • A pinch of Sesame seeds
  • A drizzle of Sesame oil (optional)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare your ingredients. Slice the square fish cakes into bite-sized strips. Thinly slice the onion and carrot, and finely chop the green onion.

Step 2

To achieve a soft texture and remove any excess saltiness or additives, briefly blanch the fish cakes in boiling water for about 10-20 seconds. After blanching, rinse them under cold water and gently squeeze out any excess moisture.

Step 3

Heat a pan over high heat and lightly stir-fry the sliced onions and carrots. Cook them just until they are slightly softened, retaining a bit of their crunch. Set the stir-fried vegetables aside in a separate bowl.

Step 4

Now, let’s prepare the sauce that will give the fish cakes their delicious flavor. In the same pan, combine 1/2 cup of vegetable broth or water (measured with a paper cup), 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 2 tablespoons of chili oil, and 2 tablespoons of oligosaccharide. Mix well and bring the sauce to a boil over high heat.

Step 5

Once the sauce is boiling, add the blanched and drained fish cakes to the pan. Stir well to ensure the fish cakes are evenly coated with the sauce.

Step 6

Reduce the heat to medium and continue to stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly and coat the fish cakes. Stir occasionally to prevent the sauce from burning.

Step 7

When the sauce has reduced to a glossy consistency and coats the fish cakes beautifully, turn off the heat. Add the stir-fried onions and carrots back into the pan. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and, if desired, a drizzle of sesame oil. Mix everything gently to combine.

Step 8

Finally, garnish the dish with the chopped green onions. This completes your soft, moist, and perfectly balanced spicy and sweet fish cake stir-fry. Serve it attractively in a nice dish and enjoy! ^^
