- Gochujang (Korean chili paste) 2 Tbsp
- Fine gochugaru (Korean chili powder) 2 Tbsp
- Soy sauce 2 Tbsp
- Minced garlic 1 Tbsp
- Maesil extract (plum extract) 2 Tbsp
- Mirin (rice wine) 1 Tbsp
- Ginger powder 1/2 tsp (or a little ginger juice)
- Perilla seed powder 5 Tbsp
- Sesame oil 1/2 Tbsp
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
In a wide pan or wok, combine the sundae, shredded cabbage, sliced onion, carrot slices, green onion, and chopped Cheongyang peppers. Cover the pan and cook over high heat for 10 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking and ensure even cooking. Combining all ingredients at once allows the vegetables’ moisture and the sundae’s juices to meld, creating a rich flavor.
Step 2
Once the vegetables have softened and wilted, add about 1 Tbsp of soy sauce (or fish sauce) for an extra savory depth. You can skip this step if you don’t have soy sauce or fish sauce. This adds a subtle seasoning to the ingredients.
Step 3
Add all the prepared sauce ingredients (gochujang, gochugaru, minced garlic, maesil extract, mirin, ginger powder) to the pan. Stir-fry quickly over high heat for 1-2 minutes until the sauce coats the sundae and vegetables evenly. Be careful not to burn the sauce.
Step 4
Finally, generously add the perilla seed powder and mix well to incorporate its nutty flavor. Turn off the heat, drizzle with sesame oil for an aromatic finish, and your delicious spicy sundae stir-fry is ready! For an enhanced meal, you can add Jjolmyeon noodles or chives at the end.
