Main Ingredients

  • 3 sheets of fish cakes (eomuk)
  • 1/4 onion
  • 180g smoked spam (about 1cm thick)
  • 1/4 red bell pepper
  • A little bit of chives or green onion stalks

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare all your ingredients. Blanch the fish cakes in boiling water briefly to remove any excess oil, rinse with cold water, and pat dry. Then, slice them into strips about 1cm wide. Slice the onion, spam, and red bell pepper into similar-sized strips. Finally, finely chop the chives or green onion stalks.

Step 1

Step 2

Heat 1-2 tablespoons of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, being careful not to burn it. Stir-fry the onion until it becomes translucent and sweet.

Step 2

Step 3

Once the onion starts to soften, add the sliced fish cakes and spam to the pan. Stir-fry them together until the fish cakes become tender and well combined with the spam.

Step 3

Step 4

When the fish cakes are tender, add the sliced red bell pepper. Stir-fry quickly to maintain its crisp texture; overcooking bell peppers can make them mushy.

Step 4

Step 5

Now it’s time to season the dish. Add 1.5 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1.5 tablespoons of oligosaccharide, and 1 teaspoon of chili powder. Stir-fry rapidly to ensure all ingredients are evenly coated with the sauce. Keep the heat on medium-low to prevent burning.

Step 5

Step 6

Just before turning off the heat, add the chopped chives or green onion. Toss them gently into the mixture; their fresh aroma will enhance the overall flavor.

Step 6

Step 7

Turn off the heat. Drizzle in a little sesame oil and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds. The nutty aroma of sesame oil and the slight crunch of sesame seeds will make the dish even more delicious.

Step 7

Step 8

Transfer the beautifully stir-fried Spam and Fish Cakes to a serving plate. This delicious side dish is now ready to be enjoyed with a warm bowl of rice!
