How to Make a Deliciously Spicy and Savory Stir-Fried Dried Tofu with Vegetables
I’ve been really into dried tofu lately! I wanted to stir-fry it with a spicy and savory sauce to enjoy with rice. So, here’s a recipe for dried tofu and vegetable stir-fry with a hint of doubanjiang for a Chinese-inspired flavor. It’s not only a great side dish for rice but also an excellent snack to enjoy with drinks.
Main Ingredients- 2 sheets Dried Tofu
- 1/2 Green Bell Pepper
- 1/2 Orange Bell Pepper
- 1/2 Red Bell Pepper
- 1/2 Onion
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the vegetables. Wash the onion, green bell pepper, orange bell pepper, and red bell pepper, and remove the seeds. Then, slice them thinly into long strips, about 0.5 cm thick. Cutting the vegetables to a similar thickness ensures they cook evenly.
Step 2
Next, slice the dried tofu into bite-sized pieces. Cut them into long strips about 1 cm wide. You can use the dried tofu directly without soaking or rinsing it beforehand.
Step 3
Now, let’s start stir-frying. Heat 3 tablespoons of cooking oil in a wide pan over medium-high heat. Once the pan is hot, add the sliced onion and stir-fry for about 1 minute until the onion becomes translucent and fragrant.
Step 4
As the onion begins to soften, add all the prepared bell peppers and continue to stir-fry. It’s crucial to maintain high heat from start to finish. Stir-frying quickly over high heat keeps the vegetables crisp and prevents them from releasing too much moisture, making the dish more flavorful.
Step 5
Once the bell peppers are slightly tender, add the sliced dried tofu. Stir-fry over high heat for about 3 minutes, tossing occasionally to ensure the tofu is evenly coated with the ingredients.
Step 6
Add 0.5 tablespoon of soy sauce and 0.5 tablespoon of oyster sauce, and stir-fry for another minute. To prevent the sauces from burning, you can slightly reduce the heat when adding them, then bring it back up while stir-frying. This helps the sauce penetrate the ingredients well. Stir thoroughly to combine.
Step 7
Finally, add 0.5 tablespoon of doubanjiang and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Stir-fry rapidly over high heat for about 3 minutes. The deep flavor of the doubanjiang combined with the sweetness of the sugar creates a deliciously spicy and savory, addictive taste. Stir vigorously to ensure all ingredients are well coated with the sauce!
Step 8
Your delicious stir-fried dried tofu with vegetables is ready! Serve it over warm rice, or drizzle with a little sesame oil for an extra touch of flavor.
