Seasoning Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp clear fish sauce (like anchovy or sand lance fish sauce)
- 1 Tbsp red pepper flakes (adjust to your preference)
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- A pinch of sesame seeds (for garnish)
- 2 Tbsp clear fish sauce (like anchovy or sand lance fish sauce)
- 1 Tbsp red pepper flakes (adjust to your preference)
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- A pinch of sesame seeds (for garnish)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
I discovered these incredibly fresh young green peppers, looking like they were just harvested from a garden! I decided this would be tonight’s side dish. Just looking at them makes my mouth water.
Step 2
First, wash the prepared green peppers thoroughly under running water. It’s important to meticulously remove any dirt or debris that might be clinging to them.
Step 3
You can leave the green peppers whole if you prefer, but I recommend cutting them in half to allow the seasoning to penetrate better. Removing the seeds before cutting can make it even neater.
Step 4
Place the washed green peppers and 1/2 cup of flour into a large plastic bag. Seal the bag tightly and shake gently. This method coats the peppers evenly with flour without getting your hands messy, making the process clean and simple.
Step 5
Prepare your steamer by getting it to a rolling boil. Arrange the floured green peppers attractively in the steaming basket. It’s a good idea to leave a little space between them so they steam evenly.
Step 6
Cover and steam over high heat for about 10 minutes, or until the green peppers are tender. Once cooked, turn off the heat and remove from the steamer to let them cool slightly. Be careful not to overcook, as they can become mushy.
Step 7
While the green peppers are cooling, let’s make the delicious seasoning! In a small bowl, combine 2 Tbsp of clear fish sauce, 1 Tbsp of red pepper flakes, 1 tsp of minced garlic, and finally, a pinch of sesame seeds for a nutty aroma. Mix everything together well. (You can also use soy sauce instead of fish sauce for a different flavor profile.)
Step 8
Add the cooled steamed green peppers to the seasoning bowl
Step 9
Gently toss to coat the green peppers evenly with the seasoning. Be careful not to mix too vigorously, as this can break the peppers. The key is to coat them lightly. Your spicy and savory steamed green pepper salad is now complete!
Step 10
I used clear fish sauce for seasoning, but if you prefer a cleaner taste, seasoning with soy sauce is also delicious. Feel free to adjust to your own preference!
Step 11
This savory and mildly spicy steamed green pepper salad is truly a meal enhancer. It’s the perfect side dish for those hot summer days when your appetite is lacking. Why not create a wonderful summer meal with these fresh green peppers?
