Easy Microwave Seasoned Bean Sprouts Recipe
This is a fundamental, yet incredibly flavorful, seasoned bean sprout dish. It’s spicy, slightly sweet, and boasts a wonderfully crisp texture. Perfect for those times when you need a quick and delicious side dish to elevate your meal.
Main Ingredients- 300g bean sprouts
- 1/2 Tbsp coarse salt (standard Korean soup spoon)
Seasoning Ingredients- 1 Tbsp red chili flakes (gochugaru, standard Korean soup spoon)
- 2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1/4 Tbsp salt
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- A pinch of toasted sesame seeds
- 1 Tbsp red chili flakes (gochugaru, standard Korean soup spoon)
- 2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1/4 Tbsp salt
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- A pinch of toasted sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, thoroughly rinse the bean sprouts under running water. It’s important to wash them meticulously to remove any dirt or impurities. Sprinkle the coarse salt evenly over the washed bean sprouts. Adding salt at this stage helps to eliminate any potential ‘bean sprout smell’ and enhances their crispiness. Place the salted bean sprouts in a microwave-safe bowl, add 100ml of water, and cover the bowl with a plate to prevent moisture loss. Microwave on high for 5 minutes (based on 700W; adjust cooking time according to your microwave’s power). Ensure the water level is sufficient to steam the sprouts without submerging them completely.
Step 2
Once the microwaving is complete, you’ll notice a significant amount of liquid has been released from the bean sprouts. This liquid can sometimes contribute to an unpleasant odor, so it’s best to discard it. Carefully drain the bean sprouts, letting any excess liquid drip away. Now, let’s prepare the seasoning mix, which is the heart of this delicious dish. In a separate bowl, combine 1 Tbsp of red chili flakes, 2 Tbsp of soy sauce, 1 Tbsp of minced garlic, 1/4 Tbsp of salt, and 1 Tbsp of sesame oil.
Step 3
Add the drained bean sprouts to the prepared seasoning mix. Gently toss and mix everything together with your hands. It’s best to use your hands for this step to ensure the seasoning is evenly distributed and coats every sprout without clumping. Continue mixing until all the bean sprouts are well-coated. Finally, sprinkle a pinch of toasted sesame seeds over the top for an added nutty aroma and flavor. This seasoned bean sprout dish is ready to be enjoyed immediately, or you can store it in the refrigerator for a cool and refreshing treat later.
