Lightning-Fast Shiitake Mushroom Stir-Fry Recipe
These mushrooms are so fresh, they’re delicious just stir-fried like this! They taste remarkably like savory meat.
Main Ingredients- 4 Shiitake mushrooms
- 1/2 Onion
- 1 Green chili pepper
Seasoning- 2 Tbsp Soy sauce
- 1 tsp Oyster sauce
- Pinch of black pepper
- Canola oil (or cooking oil)
- 2 Tbsp Soy sauce
- 1 tsp Oyster sauce
- Pinch of black pepper
- Canola oil (or cooking oil)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Lightly rinse the shiitake mushrooms under running water and trim off a small portion of the tough stem ends. Slice them into bite-sized pieces, about 2-3 sections each, or thinly if you prefer a different texture. Slicing them not too thinly will give you a satisfying chew.
Step 2
Peel and wash the onion, then slice it into strips roughly the same size as the mushrooms, or slightly thicker. Slice the green chili pepper diagonally after removing the stem. If you want to control the spiciness, you can remove the seeds, or substitute with a milder bell pepper if preferred.
Step 3
Heat a pan over low heat. Add all the prepared shiitake mushrooms, onion, and green chili pepper. Drizzle 2 Tbsp of soy sauce, 1 tsp of oyster sauce, and 2 Tbsp of canola oil around the edges of the pan. It’s important to stir-fry gently over low heat so the ingredients cook slowly and absorb the flavors. (Adjust the amount of soy sauce, oyster sauce, and pepper to your taste.)
Step 4
Once the mushrooms and vegetables release some moisture and begin to soften slightly, add a pinch of black pepper to enhance the aroma. Adding pepper at this stage allows its fragrance to really shine.
Step 5
Now, turn up the heat to medium-high and quickly stir-fry everything together. Toss and mix for about 20-30 seconds until the ingredients are well combined with the sauce. This results in a delicious shiitake mushroom stir-fry! (If you like, you can add 1/2 tsp of minced garlic for an even deeper flavor.) These fresh shiitake mushrooms are so good on their own, offering a chewy texture and rich flavor that rivals meat!
